Argonne’s people-centered culture permeates our world-class community of talent. This community advances science and technology. We design and build the tools of science, carry out innovative research, and lead through our contributions to the major science-centered conversations and initiatives of our times.

We are passionate about problem-solving and dedicated to pursuing the science and technology solutions that will make our world a better place for all.

We aim to recruit people who aspire to share their training and talents to fulfill key Lab missions, whether as scientists, engineers, other technicians like glassblowers or postdoctoral students; in Lab leadership or administrative support roles; and in numerous areas like IT, equipment and facilities maintenance, operations (HR, finance, public affairs, legal) and more.

We pair curiosity with a roll-up-your-shirtsleeves work ethic to collaborate, meet challenges and get the job done. Our innovative solutions tackle problems today, and our pivotal discoveries lay the foundation for future decades of technological advancements that drive U.S. prosperity and security.

We value diversity and inclusion and we work together to uncover new and inspired answers that we could never have found alone. Embracing the Chicagoland area as our home, we are actively extending Argonne’s capabilities and resources to underrepresented communities and are committed to building the workforce of the future.

We pursue discovery together. We all drive the mission forward and celebrate success as one Argonne team. We assemble the best with a clear sense of purpose to work on the world’s grandest challenges with respect, integrity and teamwork.

What inspired you to pursue your career or line of research?

Since I was a little kid, I wanted to be a chemist. Early on, my mother taught me about atoms and molecules, the cellular biology of living things, the solar system, our galaxy, the universe and so on, while my grandfather, a well-known oenologist, took me to his laboratory, where I would watch in awe the technicians carrying on chemical reactions to determine the composition of wine samples.

What was that ‘aha’ moment that made you realize this was the career path for you?

I had my “aha” moment when I first started doing research as an undergraduate. I spent months working on a project and the experiment finally worked. That immense satisfaction and pride continues to motivate me even today.

What advice would you give a young person to inspire and encourage her/him in their own educational or professional journey?

The one thought that works for me and I think may be helpful to anyone starting new, is to begin from basics and build on it to solve complex problems.
