One of the nation’s first exascale supercomputers is being installed at the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF), a Department of Energy Office of Science User Facility at Argonne National Laboratory.

Named Aurora, its high computing speed and artificial intelligence capabilities will enable science that is impossible today. Aurora will be capable of delivering over 2 exaflops of computing power, or 2 billion billion calculations per second. It will be one of the nation’s first exascale computers.

Built in partnership with Intel and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, one of Aurora’s distinguishing features will be its ability to seamlessly integrate the important scientific tools of data analysis, modeling and simulation and artificial intelligence. With all of these capabilities combined in one machine, Argonne will allow researchers around the world to construct infinitely more accurate models in a diversity of scientific domains, from climate and materials science, to energy storage and fusion energy.
